Study design

The study is a pilot study to test feasibility of study procedures and proof of principle.

One hundred and ten adult diabetic foot ulcer patients with either no infection or mild ulcer infection will be recruited from Podiatry Clinics in the South Wales area: Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

The participant will be asked to return to clinic one week following recruitment. At both appointments, clinical information will be collected from the participant and POCTs will be used to measure CRP, procalcitonin and calprotectin.

Participants will be asked to complete a Patient Diary for 4 weeks following recruitment, which will contain questions regarding the patients’ quality of life, the impact of the wound on the patients’ daily life, symptoms and health economics.

An online educational module will be developed by collaboration between a dermatologist, podiatrist and GP, using "Yola" website development software. Recruiting clinicians will provide feedback on the module via questionnaires and a focus group.
